As your resident flower experts, we want to make sure that magical, fresh-flower feeling lasts as long as possible. Here is our insider guide to keeping your flowers looking vibrant, healthy and living their best life.
How to Prep & Pamper Your Hand-Tied Bouquets
Did you receive a gorgeous, custom-wrapped bouquet from us? Yay! Because these flowers have been traveling, they are going to be thirsty.
Before you pop them into a clean vase, follow these quick expert steps:
- Give Them a Fresh Cut, at an angle: Before your flowers hit the water, trim about an inch off the bottom of each stem. Always cut at a 45-degree angle! This clever little trick prevents the stems from sitting flat against the bottom of the vase, creating a straw-like effect so they can drink up all the water they want.
- Strip the Lower Leaves: Carefully remove any foliage that will sit below the waterline of your vase. Trust us on this one, soggy leaves in water create bacteria, which is the absolute enemy of fresh flowers! Keeping the water crystal clear keeps your blooms happy.
- Find a Cozy, Cool Spot: Your flowers love a chilled-out environment. Display your bouquet in a cool location completely out of direct sunlight and away from heating vents.
- Steer Clear of the Fruit Bowl: Here is a fun florist secret: ripening fruits (especially bananas and apples) release a harmless gas called ethylene. While it's great for fruit, it acts like an aging accelerator for flowers! Keep your beautiful bouquet safely away from the kitchen counter.
- Refresh the Water Regularly: To keep things fresh, change out the water in the vase every few days. Double bonus to trim the stems (at an angle) each time.
- Sit Back and Enjoy! Now for the best part, find the perfect place for your vase, step back, and enjoy the gorgeous colors and fragrance blooming in your home!
How to Care for Your Vase Arrangement
Did your flowers arrive already designed in a vase? Gorgeous! We have already done all the heavy lifting and design work for you, so your main job is simply to admire them.
To keep your arrangement looking picture-perfect for days to come, keep these expert tips in mind:
- Keep it Cool and Shaded: Just like our bouquets, arrangements thrive when they are kept chilled. Pick a cool location in your home, ensuring they stay safely out of direct sunlight so their delicate petals don't get scorched.
- Keep the Fruit at Bay: Remember that sneaky ethylene gas? It applies here, too! Make sure your arrangement is showcased away from fruit so it stays looking fresh.
- Top Off the Hydration: Check the water level every single day (especially when they first arrive). If your arrangement is designed in a vase, top it off with fresh water.
-
Refresh the Water Regularly: To keep things fresh, change out the water in the vase every few days. We design most of our arrangements with reusable mechanics (chicken wire) which means you can lift your flowers up in the chicken wire, dump the water and add fresh water. Double bonus if you can trim the stems too! - don't forget to cut them at an angle!
- Enjoy your flowers! You don't have to lift a finger. Just let your arrangement take center stage in your favorite room and enjoy the view.
Pro Tip : As the days go by, some specific flowers will naturally fade faster than others. To keep the whole arrangement looking fresh, simply remove the flowers that have faded. This encourages the remaining flowers to keep thriving!
